PR# 19560 EiffelBuild Disappearance Act
Problem Report Summary
Release: 19.05 GPL
Environment: win 8.1 pro
Synopsis: EiffelBuild Disappearance Act
Just after reporting EIffelBuild issues in PR# 19559 "Crashing" the reported disappearing item happened again. I was able to recreate the details. Quote from PR# 19559 A really nasty bug: Started EiffelBuild, from the File menu selected New Project, Windows Open File dialog shows located within the esbuilder.exe directory. I terminate the program thru the taskbar program (X) icon. Then I adjust the shortcut with the intention of opening the program directly in the "Eiffelbuild User Files" directory. No window appears while the taskbar icon shows the program as started. The program cannot be terminated by clicking the (X) icon in the taskbar dropdown, requires me to use the taskmanager. Several new attempts to start end all the same way. I end up tinkering in the Windows Registry, located the EiffelBuild section and to my astonishment see the windows top-left coordinates (x,y) defined as (-32000,-32000) !!! Resetting those values make EiffelBuild visible again on next program start.
Follow steps as per PNG images, note Windows taskbar is by my preference at the top of the screen with dropdown effect. 1 Taskbar config - to show the EiffelBuild shortcut in dormant state. 2 EiffelBuild Properties - the shorcut properties, nothing special 3 Registry good - EiffelBuild preferences with good (x, y) window position. 4 Program Started - note window was moved from initial position for screenshot, then window was minimized. 5 Program Minimized 6 Taskbar Hover Display - hovering over taskbar icon to display list of open instances, single one here. Note the (X) button to close the program. ***** Now the bug part: Close the program by clicking the (X) button. ***** Start EiffelBuild once again by clicking the taskbar icon. It will show activated, but no window appears, program cannot be terminated by the (X) icon. Kill program from the Windows Taskmanager **** 7 Registry bad - how the registry looks at this time with the exotic (x, y) coordinates of (-32000, -32000) QED.
