Synopsis: Typing control-C to command line compiler causes bogus "project corrupted" error

Description
Typing control-C when command line compiler is executed often results
in a bogus error if done shortly after command is invoked:

ermine%	ec -config test.ecf
^CProject in: /export/home/dave/projects
is corrupted. Cannot continue.

While apparently harmless, this could be very confusing for a new user and
does not inspire confidence in the product.
